Our story began in 1991 when Nico Toerien founded Ibis Stationers in Hermanus. Just three months later, his wife Julie joined him in the business, and together they built a stationery shop that quickly became a well-known and trusted part of the town.

As Hermanus grew, the business was eventually sold to Walton’s, with Nico staying on as manager for a number of years before taking a short break from the industry. Not long after, the opportunity arose to start again, this time with the support of Office National, Southern Africa’s largest independently owned commercial and retail provider of stationery, office furniture, business technology, and workplace essentials.

Today we remain a proudly independent, family-run business, combining decades of local experience with the buying power and product range of the Office National network. With access to exclusive catalogues and leading brands, we are able to source almost anything our customers need.

The business is still run by the Toerien family, with Nico and Julie working alongside their son Emile, who manages the store. Many of our friendly staff members have been with us since the early days of Ibis Stationers, continuing the same personal service our customers have known for decades.
